Ambassador McMullen has built a distinguished career advising clients nationally and internationally. His expertise lies in guiding economic development initiatives and facilitating foreign direct investment (FDI), leveraging an extensive background in public affairs and government relations, particularly within the energy and healthcare sectors. He has a proven track record of helping clients navigate state incentives, environmental regulations, and the complexities of securing international investment.
From November 2017 to January 2021, Ambassador McMullen served with distinction as the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein. During his tenure, he was widely recognized for cultivating the strongest bilateral relationship in U.S.-Swiss history. A key focus of his ambassadorship was promoting FDI into the United States. Through dedicated outreach, he met with over 300 CEOs and board chairs across Switzerland and Liechtenstein, successfully building relationships that contributed to Switzerland advancing from the eighth to the sixth-largest foreign direct investor in the U.S. His engagement on the global economic stage continues, including as a frequent guest of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
